Local Development & Society (LDS) was established in 2020 to explore the potentials and limitations of local growth and to test evidence from academic research and practice against relevance to local communities and society. LDS publishes theoretical and empirical research relevant to all aspects of localism; adapting or adopting changes in a product, content, process, or policy for a specific area or locale. Changes in local social, economic, and environmental systems continue to emerge rapidly, generating keen interest from the public, nonprofit, and private sectors, as well as by citizen groups seeking to encourage healthier and more sustainable sources of livelihoods and culture in their communities and regions. The journal's scope is global and of interest to diverse social scientists, planners, researchers, policy makers, students, and practitioners across myriad academic disciplines. The journal’s Open Access option makes research readily available to these and other audiences.
