The late George Nickolaus was a charter member of CDS and served as legal counsel to CDS until his passing. The George Nickolaus family created the grant fund to honor his memory and to support graduate students enrolled in M.A., M.S., or Ph.D. programs emphasizing community development, at accredited universities in the United States.
The grant is presented to M.A., M.S., or Ph.D. students of good academic standing. An applicant may receive a scholarship only one time. One scholarship will be offered in 2020 in the amount of $1,000. The recipient will be recognized at a plenary session of the CDS Annual International Conference. Although the students are not required to attend the CDS Annual International Conference, they are still encouraged to do so. A scholarship recipient may receive only one scholarship per degree. For example, a student may apply for the grant as an MS/MA student and again as a Ph.D. student/candidate.
