President’s Update

We have only a little over a week before the call for papers is due for the Annual Conference of the Community Development Society.  The meetings are scheduled for July 21-25, 2012 at the Kingsgate Marriott in Cincinnati, OH.  The theme of the conference is Sustaining Community Through Innovation and Entrepreneurship.  At this year's conference, we will be joined by Co-ops USA.  This dynamic organization will share presentations and a track at the conference.  It is expected that their contribution will tie beautifully with that of CDS members' research, outreach, and practice.

The ever changing world needs community development.  The Community Development Society stands ready to fill a void left by shrinking budget cuts to services once covered by government programs, global political shifts, and global economic instability.  As a member of the CDS, members stay abreast of the research and outreach activities and innovations through the journals, conferences, webinar series, and continued professional development opportunities.

We invite you to not only renew your membership and join us in Cincinnati for the 2012 conference, we encourage you to engage in the Principles of Good Practice the undergird all that CDS stands for and works towards.  We urge you to become involved in your communities and to reach out to the underserved.  Together, the members of CDS, its partnering organizations, and the communities that we serve can make a difference, not only today, but well into the future.  We can do so by actively seeking equitably beneficial and sustainable solutions to local and global issues.  We can find solutions to the social issue not by focusing on development to and for communities but with communities.

We encourage you to share what you have learned in your communities and through conference workshops, paper presentations, and poster presentations.  In so doing, you can work to build your community and assist others in doing what they do better.  Please contact Lori Landry at the CDS Business Office at 614-221-1900 ext. 227 or via email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
